Crazy Stupid Love (Spoilers!)
Crazy Stupid Love is a romance/comedy made in 2011 directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. This film stars Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling as Steve Carell's character, Cal Weaver, goes through a divorce and Ryan Gosling's character, Jacob Palmer, helps him to get back on his feet. The movie starts off with Cal's wife wanting a divorce because she met someone else. This then leads Cal into a dark state where he has a crappy apartment and can now only see his kids for a few days at a time. Cal starts going to bars and clubs in hopes of getting his mind off of his wife but ultimately ends up only talking about his wife to anyone who will listen. Jacob is in his mid-twenties and is a very good-looking guy who gets any girl he wants. He notices Cal and decides to help him up his game. He takes Cal shopping to get a new wardrobe and coaches him into saying certain things in hopes of picking up a girl. The Climax of the movie is when Cal's wife throws a little party in which all the kids are there, including his oldest daughter who happens to be dating Jacob. This causes Cal to be super angry with Jacob and the two start fighting when one of the neighbors joins in because his daughter, and also Cal's kid's babysitter, has a crush on Cal and her father thought it was something more. The movie ultimately ends with Cal and his wife getting back together and Cal gives his approval for Jacob and his daughter to continue dating.
I thought this was a very funny and heartwarming movie. Although there were many arguments and some fighting, it was the right amount of funny and heartwarming. The movie was similar to other romance/comedies I've seen and other than remembering the actors that starred in it, the rest of it was forgettable. Not that it was a bad movie, but it had an average storyline and an expected ending. I have only seen it once a month ago and had to look up some things that I couldn't quite remember or forgot what happened. Although some parts of it were forgettable, I still think it is worth the watch. Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell were a super funny duo that made me want to jump through the screen and be friends with them. They would make fun of each other and laugh and it made me want to be friends with them. They also seemed to fit in with their characters perfectly, Ryan Gosling being the cool guy who all the girls drool over, and Steve Carell being the divorced nerdy guy who can't talk to other girls. Overall, I'd rate the movie a 7/10. I would probably watch it again in the next couple of years since I guess I already forgot most of it. This movie is a good one to watch for an uplifting, funny movie.
