Killers of the Flower Moon (Spoilers!)
Killers of the Flower Moon is a film released in October of this year directed by Martin Scorsese. This film is a whopping 3 hours and 26 minutes, so be ready for it to take up the majority of your free time, but it is worth it. This film is about a man named Ernest, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and his new life after the war. He moved to the oil-rich Osage territory in Oklahoma to be with his uncle, William Hale which they also called the king. From the beginning, the viewer gets a sense that William Tase is a cold man who's trying to get everyone on his side, including his sons and nephews. He encourages Ernest to go out there and find a nice wife when he meets and falls in love with Mollie, a Native American girl who will soon be inherently rich. Mollie has three sisters and a mother and within the film we see her sisters and former lovers get killed off one by one so there is no threat to the money. I don't want to give too much away because this is a newer film and think that it is better seen than heard...
However, I think this film was my absolute favorite of the year. I was super unsure at first and it was not my choice to go see it, but when I did, I was engaged the whole entire 3 and a half hours. I thought this movie was absolutely incredible and they did such a great job. My favorite parts of the movie were the bits where it was absolutely silent and then all of a sudden you hear a super loud gunshot that makes the audience jump. I have never experienced that type of jump scare where it is just noise, but it was effective and brilliant.
The plot of this film was amazing, yet heartbreaking, and the acting was even more so. Especially from Lily Gladstone who played Mollie. She was amazing and she and Leonardo DiCaprio did amazing work between the two of them. This movie was a definite 10/10 and even though it was 3 and a half hours long, I would definitely watch it again and again. Something about it really drew me in and it had the perfect mix of mystery, confusion, and several "aha" moments, which I loved. I highly recommend this movie and feel like it captures the story so perfectly.
This really makes me want to see this movie! Good acting can really make a movie amazing :)
